Product Description

"Any great work of art revives and readapts time and space." This adage holds good in this masterpiece presented before you. This visual art is sculpted on wood.
According to Pablo Picasso, Sculpture is the art of intelligence. It is in fact a *-dimentional object with a theme or a message.
The irresistible urge in the hands behind this ultimate experience is the master craftsman, a Presidential Awardee Mr. K.Kuttappan Nair, aged *4 years.   It is his wisdom that has helped him transform his inner vision.
A self-styled artist who relied solely on his innate talent which hardly needed much chiseling with the blessings of the deity 'Attukal Bhagavathy' helped him reach the pinnacle of glory. He pursued art as his profession following the dictates of his heart. His passion for art lured him through the corridors of the museum at Thiruvananthapuram which housed the beautiful works of art by India's great classical painter Raja Ravi Varma. Various paintings of world renown beckoned him to make the drawings and sketches that were closer to reality. A subtle transformation from the sketches into carvings was never an insurmountable task. The transition was quite spontaneous. His flair and panache for the carvings particularly on ivory and wood never went unnoticed leading him to win several prestigious acclaims like the President's Award for Master Craftsman in the year ***4 and the Tamil Nadu Government's 'Kalaimamani Award for being the best artist in the year***1.  Notable among his work the Three feet sculpture of A Young Goddess (Uma Parvathy) in ivory which won him the coveted title of South Indias Best Artist in the year ***2.  Among *5 participants who displayed their exhibits The Victoria Technical Institute (V.T.I) , Chennai, Mr.  K.Kuttappan Nairs work on ivory won the First prize from the then Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Honorable M.  Karunanithi.   His sensibility, tenderness, imagination, industry and sheer tenacity has fetched him all the honours and reputation. The creative spirit of this illustrious craftsman has animated a style that was distinctly his own.
The source of eternal inspiration for most artists over the years has indeed been Mahakavi Kalidasa's Abhigānaśākuntalam. This epitome of love is best exemplified by Shakuntala for Raja Dushyantha.  Raja Ravi Varma's painting of Shakuntala contemplating over an issue close to her heart has been beautifully painted onto the canvas leaving most artists to follow suit. But to carve on wood took Mr. K.Kuttappan Nair almost five years to painfully transform his concept into this ultimate expression. This laborious progress incurred a huge investment and all the necessary qualities of an artist making it truly his 'Masterpiece' (Sakuntala 3 Ft. x 1.8 Ft).
Sculpted on wood with a base measuring 6ftx 3.5ft (Pool), this monumental piece includes the central character Shakuntala  along with her friends Anasuya  (1.5 Ft. x 1 Ft.) and Priyamvada(1.5 Ft. x 1 Ft.)  , 2 deers (1.5 Ft. x 1 Ft Each), swans (6 inch x 5 inch each) , vase full of flowers (8 inch x 8 inch) pot (8 x *0 inch) Rock (3 Ft. x 4 inch) and the total net weight of the art work about **0 kg to contrast the natural background with the human indulgence of beauty.
Set in a natural idyll of peace and plenty is the protagonist Shakuntala along with her two friends. She is pensively seated along the side of a pool drowned in the thoughts of Raja Dushyantha who had vowed to take her to the royal palace. The agony of separation from her beloved and her overwhelming desire to meet him coupled with the delicate ridicule of her friends leaves the young woman flushed with embarrassment.
This bewitching work of art is the result of a unique temperament intense in its mode of the artists' individualism is a sight never to be missed as this ensemble has never been carved before giving it an unparalleled status.   This awe-inspiring accomplishment is bound to make the audience feel enraptured.
